Cheryl L. Saban, [Nominee] for Representative to the United Nations General Assembly

Cheryl Saban, Ph.D., is an author, psychologist, philanthropist and advocate for women and children.   As a writer, she focuses predominately on family, women’s empowerment, and pediatric healthcare.  She is the author of several books including What is Your Self-Worth – A Woman’s Guide to Validation, Miracle Child, Sins of the Mother, Recipe for a Good Marriage, Recipe for Good Parenting, New Mother’s Survival Guide, Recipe for a Happy Life and 50 Ways to Save our Children which she wrote to encourage community giving.   She is also a regular contributor and blogger for the Huffington Post.

In 2009, Dr. Saban founded the non-profit organization Women’s Self Worth Foundation (www.whatisyourselfworth.com) with a $10 million pledge to charitable organizations for the aiding, advancement and empowerment of girls and women.  Since its inception, the Foundation has been very active in working to advance its goals. Earlier this year, the Foundation made a $1 million grant to the Cherie Blair Foundation for Women, and a $500,000 grant to help establish the Barbra Streisand Women’s Heart Center at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. This follows a grant to Girls Incorporated in 2011 to mentor underserved girls and young women in the United States and Canada to inspire them to lead financially sound, and productive lives, and two major commitments to The American Indian College Fund and Operation Homefront, for scholarship programs benefitting American Indian women and military spouses in 2010. In 2009, the Foundation made its first $1 million grant to The Women’s Funding Network to benefit ACCION’s U.S.A’s micro-lending programs.

Dr. Saban is President of the Saban Family Foundation, which was established alongside her husband Haim in 1999, to support medical, children’s and education programs. The Saban’s have been major contributors to the Saban Free Clinic in Los Angeles, the Motion Picture and Television Fund, Soroka Children’s Hospital in Israel, the John Wayne Cancer Institute, American Israel Education Foundation, William Jefferson Clinton Foundation, and to rehabilitation facilities for Friends of the Israel Defense Forces.

Dr. Saban serves on the Boards of The Saban Research Institute, Girls Inc., Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, and Marc & Jane Nathanson Mental Health Resource Center at UCLA.  Dr. Saban served as a Commissioner for the City of Los Angeles Commission for Children, Youth, and Their Families, the Board of Directors of the Los Angeles Universal Preschool, and the Board of Overseers at the Keck School of Medicine at USC. 

Dr. Saban holds a PhD in Psychology from California Coast University and is a member of the American Psychological Association.
